What are Vintage Games?
Games like Space Invaders, Galaxian, Pac-man and Asteroids are common as retro or vintage games on many modern consoles and handheld devices. However, there was a time when these games were top arcade games. These were the games of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Vintage games are more than a select few top-selling games. Vintage games covers all games from the 1970s, where most games consisted of a bouncing white ball in one form or another, to the 1990s where three dimensional games became the norm. This time period is broken up into five generations with each generation having specific characteristics.
What games are covered?
For those of us growing up during the 70s, 80s and 90s, video games were not just available on video game consoles, but also available on various home computers. We cover all video game consoles that are identified by five different generations and three different computer classifications that are identified by 8 bit, 16bit and 32 bit.
Why did we create this site?
It all started one weekend after playing gears of war, a game that was voted as the best for 2006, we then decided to try games like Robotron 2084 and Pac-Mac that was included with the console. This lead us to seeing what other game were out there. We spent a few hours on Google and Wiki looking up games from our early childhood.
While we found many good sites, however, there was no single site that covered all game generations from the 1970s up to the current day. We also had trouble finding a site that included games for computers like the Commodore 64 and Atari 400 and Apple II. |
